People with Disabilities
If you are a person who has a disability, you may be interested in a parking placard or license plate for people with disabilities. You may find more information about these placards and plates on the Application for Placard and/or License Plate for People who have a Disability (SCDMV Form RG-007A) and the Organization Placard and/or License Plate for People who have a Disability (SCDMV Form RG-007B).
Parking Placards
You may hear a parking placard referred to as a hanger.
If a licensed doctor certified that you have a disability, you are eligible for a parking placard. If you're interested in applying for a placard you must have a current South Carolina beginner's permit, driver's license, or identification card. If you do not have one, you must apply for it before you may receive your placard.
You may only use a parking placard if you're the person whose photograph is on it. You must keep the placard registration certificate in your vehicle when you're using the placard.
In Person
To apply for a parking placard, you should bring all of the following to an SCDMV branch:
- Completed Application for Placard and/or License Plate for People who have a Disability (SCDMV Form RG-007A)
If you're not interested in a license plate, you can leave Section 3 blank.- Section 1 - Select whether you're requesting an original, renewal, or replacement
- Section 4 must be completed by a qualified individual

Once you bring the above to an SCDMV branch, the parking placard will be mailed to you in five to ten business days.

Renew Parking Placard Online
If you are a permanent placard holder, you can renew your Disabled Parking Placard online.
License Plates
If a licensed doctor certified that you have a disability, you are eligible for a license plate. If you're interested in applying for a plate, you must have a current South Carolina beginner's permit, driver's license, or identification card. If you do not have one, you must apply for it before you may receive your plate.
In Person
To apply for a license plate, you should bring all of the following to an SCDMV branch:
- Complete all sections of the Application for Placard and/or License Plate for People who have a Disability (SCDMV Form RG-007A)
- Select whether you're requesting an original, renewal, or replacement
- Section 4 must be completed by a qualified individual
- $36 (regular registration fee), $10 (motorcycle)

Organizations Requesting Parking Placards or License Plates
Parking Placards for Organizations
If you're a business or organization that, as part of your business, regularly transport people who have disabilities, you may receive a parking placard.
You may only receive one placard per vehicle that's registered in your business's or organization's name. You must complete the Organization Placard and/or License Plate for People who have a Disability (SCDMV Form RG-007B). It is $1 per placard.
You may mail the completed application and your payment(s), made out to the SCDMV, to the address below:

License Plates for Organizations
If you're a business or organization that, as part of your business, regularly transport people who have disabilities, you may receive a license plate for vehicles designed and equipped to transport people who have disabilities.
You may only receive one plate per vehicle that's registered in your business's or organization's name. You must complete the Organization Placard and/or License Plate for People who have a Disability (SCDMV Form RG-007B). You do not have to submit certification from a licensed doctor. It is $36 per plate every two years.
